Explosive Drone Strike in Shomera: 12 IDF Soldiers Wounded in Western Galilee

Twelve IDF soldiers were wounded on Thursday morning following an explosive drone strike in the Western Galilee community of Shomera. The attack, which targeted a military position, triggered immediate rescue operations in the sector.

Military correspondent Itay Blumenthal reports that the Hezbollah drone targeted an IDF artillery battery, causing an ammunition fire that significantly heightened the danger of the incident. Military officials emphasized that the secondary explosions created a situation that could have resulted in a far greater catastrophe, though the event was eventually contained after wounding 12 soldiers.

The drone struck military vehicle M548, known in the IDF as the Alfa, used to transport artillery shells.

Technological Escalation

The incident involved a high-tech explosive drone, reportedly equipped with fiber-optic controls designed to bypass traditional electronic jamming systems. This strike marks one of the most significant casualties from a single drone incident in the northern arena since the start of the current ceasefire.

The IDF has responded with artillery fire and targeted airstrikes against the sources of the launch in southern Lebanon.

Some of the details of the attack and casualties have not been cleared for publication by the IDF censor.
