Weapons and Equipment Amnesty

IDF amnesty: return weapons, no charges

65 collection points open across IDF bases November 1–12; soldiers who took military equipment home can return it anonymously, with immunity from prosecution

IDF Opens Unprecedented Amnesty: Soldiers Can Return Stolen Weapons, No Questions Asked

The IDF is launching a large-scale operation this month to recover combat equipment and military gear taken from army bases by soldiers on active duty or in reserve. The operation, running November 1–12, will allow soldiers to return the equipment without identifying themselves and without fear of prosecution for having removed, held or carried it unlawfully.

As part of the operation, led by the Technology and Logistics Directorate, some 65 collection stations and centers will open at IDF bases across the country. Soldiers will be able to return a wide range of combat equipment and military gear, including firearms, night-vision devices, communications equipment, uniforms, protective gear such as ceramic vests, helmets and body armor, medical equipment, and any other military items.

Public Safety and Preventing Unauthorized Use

The goal of the operation is to strengthen public security and prevent the use of military equipment outside the framework of service. The IDF seeks to ensure that combat equipment is held only by authorized personnel, and to reduce the risks involved in keeping combat equipment under unsafe conditions.

In addition, the operation is designed to prevent military equipment from reaching hostile elements. Returning the equipment will enable reuse of serviceable gear, streamline procurement processes, and reduce unnecessary purchasing. It is a significant step at a time when the IDF is dealing with extensive logistical needs in the wake of the ongoing war.

Similar Precedents: Weapons Found in the Field

The operation comes at a time when cases of military equipment and weapons left in the field or held unlawfully are discovered from time to time. About a year ago, weapons and communications devices belonging to Hamas terrorists were found in Kibbutz Be'eri, more than two years after the October 7 massacre. The weapons were found in a kindergarten, when civilian rehabilitation crews reported it to the police.

Police sappers from the Southern District were called to the scene, and an inspection revealed that the items were loaded and cocked Kalashnikov rifles, along with communications devices used by the terrorists during the murderous terror attack. The combat equipment had remained in the field since the difficult battles fought by fighters from the Yamam counter-terrorism unit and Southern District police officers.

Further Details and Public Appeal

The IDF emphasizes that the operation represents a unique opportunity for soldiers to return military equipment taken from bases, without fear of legal consequences. The move is designed to allow soldiers to correct the situation in a simple and safe manner, while contributing to overall security and preventing unauthorized use of military equipment.

For questions and further clarifications about the operation, contact the dedicated hotline at *6008. The IDF calls on any soldier who has military equipment taken from bases to take advantage of the opportunity and return it during the operation period.
