U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio held a phone conversation with Oman's Foreign Minister Badr al-Busaidi on Tuesday against the backdrop of rising tensions between Gulf states and the escalating exchange of strikes between Saudi Arabia and the Houthis.
According to a report from Oman's state news agency, Rubio and al-Busaidi "exchanged ideas regarding efforts to reduce tensions in the Gulf and contain their effects, while creating conditions calm enough to allow addressing pending issues in this regard, for the benefit of the region's security and stability."
The two officials also "agreed to continue mutual consultations and coordination, both for the benefit of bilateral relations between Muscat and Washington and to ensure the success of efforts to stabilize the region," the statement added.
