Allegations of Misleading the Public

Probe Sought on Eisenkot Security Claims

The Movement for Quality Government demands investigation into contradictory statements about who denied security protection to election candidate Gadi Eisenkot

The Movement for Quality Government in Israel submitted a formal request Sunday to the Attorney General calling for an immediate investigation into contradictory statements regarding security arrangements for election candidate Gadi Eisenkot. The watchdog organization highlighted what it described as a discrepancy between claims attributed to the head of the Shin Bet security service and an official statement from the Central Elections Committee.

At the heart of the request is the allegation that the Shin Bet chief refused to authorize security protection for Eisenkot, a former IDF Chief of Staff now running for office. The Movement is demanding clarification on who actually made the decision regarding Eisenkot's security detail, what considerations informed that decision, and whether accurate information was provided to the public.

According to the organization's statement, the issue extends beyond a simple disagreement between two government bodies, it directly affects the safety of an election candidate and raises questions about transparency in security decision-making.

"We demand an examination of whether false information was conveyed to the public, and if so, by whom," the Movement stated in its letter to the Attorney General.

The organization emphasized that the confusion surrounding the decision-making process undermines public trust in state institutions. They argued that the lack of clarity about who denied the security authorization and why requires immediate investigation and transparent answers.

"This is a sensitive matter affecting both the security of an election candidate and public confidence in state institutions. The public deserves to know the truth: who made the decision, what considerations guided it, and whether there was an attempt to mislead the public regarding responsibility," the Movement stated.

The watchdog is now calling on the Attorney General to examine the conflicting versions of events and trace the chain of decision-making surrounding Eisenkot's security arrangements.
