Houthis May Launch Ground War on Saudi Border

Lebanese newspaper reports Yemen's Houthi rebels are planning to escalate conflict with Saudi Arabia, potentially shifting focus to ground operations along the border

Yemen's Houthi movement is preparing a significant escalation in its conflict with Saudi Arabia that could include launching a large-scale ground campaign along the countries' shared border, according to a new report.

The Lebanese newspaper Al-Akhbar, which has ties to Hezbollah, reported this morning that the Houthis are planning to deploy military capabilities and operational options they have not yet used in the conflict. The Iran-backed group aims to substantially increase military pressure on Riyadh and shift more of the fighting onto Saudi territory and its southern border region.

According to the report, the Houthis are preparing to "activate military options that were not exhausted during the first phase" and move to a new stage in the conflict that they described as one "that will be even more painful for Saudi Arabia."

The report highlights a potential ground campaign along the Yemen-Saudi border as one of the main scenarios under consideration. Unlike the long-range attacks using missiles and drones that have characterized much of the Houthi campaign, this move would involve more extensive deployment of ground forces.

The publication states that the Houthis are preparing for the possibility of a "large-scale" ground operation along the border strip, with the goal of moving the center of the conflict directly into Saudi Arabia's southern region.

If implemented, such a move would mark a significant intensification of the conflict and open a new front against the kingdom, following a period in which much of the Houthi activity has relied on missile capabilities, drones, and maritime operations.
