The geographic reach of the current war has expanded to the northernmost borders of Iran, with the IDF confirming a successful strike on a sophisticated air defense site located near the Caspian Sea. The facility, which was heavily camouflaged within a dense forest more than 1,600 kilometers away from Israel, represented a significant threat to Israeli Air Force aircraft as they move to expand aerial superiority over the entire country. This deep-penetration strike coincides with a grim report from the Iranian Ministry of Science, which states that 154 scientific facilities across 21 universities have been damaged or destroyed since the beginning of the war.

Academic Targets and Threatening Retaliation The destruction of Iran’s academic and technical infrastructure has reached a critical level. Video evidence has shown the Faculty of Physics building at the Iran University of Science and Technology reduced to rubble. Other major centers, including the Isfahan University of Technology, have also reported significant damage. In response to these strikes, the Revolutionary Guard has issued a chilling warning, stating that they now consider Israeli universities and branches of U.S. universities in the region, such as those in Qatar and the UAE, to be "legitimate targets." They have advised students and staff at these regional campuses to stay at least one kilometer away from their buildings.

The strike near the Caspian Sea highlights the IDF's ability to operate deep within Iranian territory with total freedom of action, hitting targets even in the most remote forested regions of the north. This systematic deconstruction of both defensive systems and high-tech research centers suggests a strategy intended to not only win the current war but to set back Iran’s military-industrial capabilities for decades. As the air campaign continues to pick apart hidden sites, the regime's ability to protect its most sensitive scientific and military assets is rapidly disappearing.
