Iran threatens US

Khamenei: Iran will hit back harder

Iran's Supreme Leader issues his first statement on the US midterm results, warning Washington that the era of American invincibility is over and threatening a massive response to any renewed US action

Mojtaba Khamenei

Iran's Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, released a written statement Wednesday in which he addressed the results of the US midterm elections for the first time, following the Republican defeat that cost the party its majority in both houses of Congress.

"If anyone is pinning hopes on a change in American behavior following the elections, they are making a grave mistake," Khamenei wrote. "The situation in the Persian Gulf and Hormuz has exposed the lie of 'invincible' America. It has revealed the weakness and humiliation of those governments that lean on foreign powers instead of on their own people."

He added that "if the United States renews acts of aggression, the Iranian response will be far more powerful. Today, America's strength and control are fading and in irreversible collapse, and it is in a process of disintegration that continues to grow. The axis of resistance has achievements from Palestine and Lebanon to Iraq and Yemen. We will not make concessions to America."
