The diplomatic clock is ticking toward a definitive conclusion as President Donald Trump met with his top advisors to discuss the deepening crisis with the Iranian regime. Following the expiration of his previous deadline, the President has made it clear that the window for talking is virtually shut. During high-level briefings on the Geneva negotiations and the massive troop surges in the Middle East, the administration signaled that this is the final opportunity for Tehran to offer a meaningful proposal. To prepare for the possibility that diplomacy has reached a dead end, the United States is already coordinating the immediate evacuation of its government officials, a move that suggests a transition to military action is being taken with the utmost seriousness.

The Search for a "Victory Photo"

Despite the skepticism in Washington, secret mediation efforts led by Oman and Qatar are still underway in an attempt to secure an agreement that provides a "victory photo" for all involved parties. The mediators have conveyed to both sides that any potential deal must allow the United States, Iran, Israel, and the Gulf states to present the outcome as a significant strategic win. Currently, American officials are waiting for a written proposal from Iran that includes massive concessions regarding their nuclear program, a document that was expected at the Geneva summit but never materialized.

To facilitate this last-ditch effort, mediators are attempting to organize an emergency meeting in Europe within the next few days. However, the American side remains highly doubtful that these talks can yield a result significant enough to prevent war. Secretary of State Marco Rubio is expected to arrive in Israel in about a week, just 24 hours before the President's 10-day deadline officially expires. His visit is seen as the final logistical and diplomatic check before the United States potentially ends its reliance on diplomacy. The arrival of the USS Gerald R. Ford in the Mediterranean is cited by senior officials as the "critical component" that will allow President Trump to make the final call on launching a military campaign.
