Scottish singer Annie Lennox has joined a controversial global campaign calling on citizens worldwide to halt all spending every Thursday in protest of Israel’s actions in Gaza. The initiative, which launched today, aims to create a “political and economic shock” to pressure decision-makers and disrupt global markets.
In a pointed Instagram post shared with hundreds of thousands of followers on Wednesday, Lennox urged a global audience to participate in what organizers are calling a “worldwide strike for Gaza,” set to take place every Thursday. The campaign is designed to draw attention to the humanitarian crisis and create tangible economic disruption in Western consumption patterns.
The initiative was founded by Palestinian journalist and activist Bisan Odeh, who won an Emmy last year for her web series “I am Bisan from Gaza and I Am Still Alive.” The campaign is supported by The Humanity Project, an international civic movement connecting communities, organizations, and social movements around human rights and humanitarian causes.
