A Voice for the Generations: Israel Prize Laureate Yehoram Gaon Releases New Love Song for the Nation
The legendary singer and cultural icon joins forces with Shmulik Neufeld in a touching tribute titled "Meanwhile," capturing the collective heartbeat of Israel during uncertain times.

Yehoram Gaon, the beloved Israel Prize laureate for contribution to Hebrew music and one of the nation's most enduring cultural symbols, has released a powerful new collaboration as part of Shmulik Neufeld’s "Neufeld’s Glasses" project. The song, titled "Meanwhile" (Bein-tayim), is an honest and vulnerable love letter to the country, written by Avi Ohayon, Maor Titon and Shmulik Neufeld.
The track explores the complex Israeli "meantime state" that delicate space between hope and anxiety that has characterized life for many in recent months. Gaon, bringing his signature precision and emotional depth, describes the song not as a simple happy or sad melody, but as a profound declaration of loyalty. "It’s a song that says, 'I am still yours, forever !' Gaon explained, emphasizing his unconditional love for his homeland. For Shmulik Neufeld, working with Gaon was a dream fulfilled: "Hearing my childhood hero perform a song I created is a massive thrill. His intention in every word pierces the heart."
Gaon’s recent activity proves that his legendary status is only growing. At the beginning of 2026, at the age of 86, the singer married his partner of 15 years in a private ceremony that touched the hearts of many.
This personal milestone followed a major performance at the historic Caesarea amphitheater and a special tribute by the Jerusalem Municipality, which presented an exhibition on his life's work at the Tower of David Museum.
Throughout the "Swords of Iron" war, Gaon experienced a "youthful renewal" on the front lines, joining soldiers in song and releasing a modern version of his classic hit "You Won’t Defeat Me" (Lo Tenatzchu Oti), which became a renewed anthem of resilience and strength for the entire nation.
