Security forces have launched Operation "Iron Wall" in Jenin, involving special units targeting terrorist infrastructure in the Samarian stronghold. The operation began with Israeli Air Force strikes, followed by ground forces entering the area.
"This operation aims to maintain the IDF's freedom of operation throughout Judea and Samaria, and to destroy and neutralize terrorist infrastructure and operatives classified as 'ticking time bombs' before they can carry out attacks," military officials stated. The operation involves four battalions from the Kfir Brigade and Commando Brigade, alongside Border Police and Shin Bet forces.
The operation has been planned since December, following Palestinian Authority security operations against Hamas and Islamic Jihad strongholds in Jenin and Tulkarem.
Recent Violence
Last week, two IDF soldiers were seriously wounded in Qabatiya near Jenin when their "David" military vehicle struck an explosive device. The Islamic Jihad's military wing claimed responsibility. The day before, an IDF and Shin Bet joint operation killed six militants, including senior members of the "Jenin Battalion."
Defense Minister's Position
Defense Minister Yisrael Katz recently visited the Judea and Samaria division, stating: "We will not allow Judea and Samaria to become Gaza or South Lebanon. Those who engage in terrorism like in Gaza will be treated accordingly. We will cut off Iranian proxy operations in Samarian refugee camps and protect settlements and residents."
