A Jerusalem Magistrate's Court on Tuesday extended by six days the detention of a suspect accused of involvement in injecting sedatives into Prinok-brand baby fruit purees. The decision came one day after the 40 year old man's arrest, marking what investigators describe as a significant breakthrough in a case that has unfolded over the past two months.
During the court hearing, a representative from the Crime Fighting Unit of the Zion District in the Jerusalem Police stated that "we contend the respondent was involved deliberately and relatively close in time to the poisoning incident." The presiding judge ruled that "the investigative material establishes reasonable suspicion of significant strength for offenses including use of poison to endanger life, negligent handling of medications, and theft."
