Judge's Order Ignored 4 Times: Bnei Brak Murder Suspect Still Not Sent for Psychiatric Evaluation

A growing confrontation between the court and the district psychiatrist has emerged in the case of the shocking murder at the Chazon Ish Kollel in Bnei Brak, after a judge's repeated orders to transfer the suspect for a psychiatric evaluation were allegedly ignored.

According to reports, the judge has issued four separate rulings since early June directing that the suspect undergo an inpatient psychiatric examination to determine his mental condition and fitness to stand trial. The district psychiatrist reportedly declined to carry out the orders, arguing that a substantive evaluation could not be conducted at the current stage of the legal proceedings.

The court issued additional directives on June 4 and June 7, reiterating that the examination should proceed and seeking explanations for the continued delay. Despite those rulings, the evaluation had still not been carried out as of Wednesday.

In a sharply worded decision issued Wednesday, the judge again ordered that the suspect be transferred for psychiatric evaluation "as soon as possible, preferably today," noting that previous court orders had not been implemented.

The judge also included a rare highlighted note directed at the district psychiatrist, drawing attention to an earlier judicial ruling that stated a competency examination could begin at this stage of the proceedings.

The case stems from the fatal attack at the Chazon Ish Kollel in Bnei Brak approximately three weeks ago, in which a suspect allegedly killed a yeshiva student during Torah study. Police have completed their investigation, and an indictment is expected in the coming days.

A psychiatric evaluation is expected to play a key role in determining whether the suspect is fit to stand trial and in assessing criminal responsibility as legal proceedings continue.
