Three IDF Officers Dismissed After Probe Into Shocking Death of Trainee
The IDF has dismissed three officers and imposed disciplinary actions following an investigation into the death of Sgt. Yosef Chaim Tzvi Serlin during a Krav Maga drill. The probe found significant deviations from protocol, prompting a temporary halt to all Krav Maga training and a review of procedures across special units.

The IDF announced today that three officers have been dismissed and additional disciplinary measures imposed following a professional investigation into the March 2025 death of Sgt. Yosef Chaim Tzvi Serlin z”l, a trainee in Unit 504, during a Krav Maga training exercise.
A committee of experts led by Brig. Gen. R’ determined that the fatal incident resulted from “errors and failures that deviated from professional guidelines.” The findings were presented to the Serlin family earlier today.
According to the investigation, the drill’s execution violated official orders issued by the Chief Infantry and Paratroopers Officer regarding combat fitness training. The inquiry was based on testimonies from soldiers and commanders present, alongside a review of procedures and training files for Unit 504 and Bahad 8.
Maj. Gen. Shlomi Binder, head of Military Intelligence, adopted the committee’s conclusions, which faulted the commanders on-site for not demonstrating the required responsibility and professionalism during both the preparation and execution of the drill.
Disciplinary Actions Announced:
* Commander of Unit 504 (Brigadier General D’): Received a command reprimand.
* Commander of the fighter training track (Lt. Col. Y’): Promotion frozen for six years.
* Captain N’: Immediately dismissed and barred from command positions for two years.
* Lieutenant A’: Immediately dismissed and barred from command for two years.
* Lieutenant T’: Dismissed from post and released from IDF service.
The Military Police Criminal Investigation Division (CID) continues to examine all circumstances of the incident, including the precise medical cause of death. Its findings will be transferred to the Military Prosecutor and presented to the family.
In light of the investigation, the IDF has temporarily halted all Krav Maga training across the military until all lessons and new guidelines are implemented. The committee recommended broad professional reforms, especially within special units, measures now under General Staff review.
The IDF expressed its deep sorrow over the death of Sgt. Serlin z”l and reiterated its commitment to supporting his family.
