A new ceasefire proposal for Gaza is set to be finalized in the coming hours, driven by U.S. pressure, according to reports from Arab media outlets Al-Arabiya and Al-Hadath.

Qatar and Egypt, key mediators in the Israel-Hamas talks, are racing to draft the agreement before U.S. President Donald Trump’s upcoming visit to the Middle East, aiming to secure an immediate ceasefire and address the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

The mediators are prioritizing a framework that not only halts hostilities but also facilitates urgent relief for Gaza’s population, amid ongoing Israeli military operations and reported casualties, including a recent strike in Al-Bureij camp that killed at least 29 people.

Qatar and Egypt’s Unified Stance

In a joint statement issued on Wednesday, Qatar and Egypt reaffirmed their commitment to a coordinated approach, working closely with the U.S. to broker a deal. “The talks aim to achieve a framework that ensures civilian safety and resolves the humanitarian tragedy,” the statement declared, emphasizing their resolve to resist attempts to sow discord between them. This comes amid scrutiny over alleged Qatari efforts to undermine Egypt, as investigated in Israel’s “Qatar-Gate” affair.

Context and Urgency

The push for a ceasefire follows heightened regional tensions, including a Houthi drone attack on Israel and Israeli airstrikes on Sanaa’s airport, which caused an estimated $500 million in damage. The mediators’ urgency is also driven by Trump’s recent claim that only 21 of 59 hostages in Gaza remain alive, lower than Israel’s official count of 24, raising concerns about the captives’ fate as fighting intensifies.
