Haifa Airport Parking Expansion: 900 Spaces Added

The Israel Airports Authority is currently constructing a new parking facility at Haifa Airport with approximately 900 spaces, covering roughly 50 acres north of the passenger terminal. The expansion responds to a significant increase in both passenger numbers and flight operations at the northern facility, which has emerged as an alternative to Ben Gurion Airport for residents of Israel's northern regions.

According to the Airports Authority, the new lot will address growing congestion at the airport as activity levels continue to climb. The project aims to make air travel more accessible for passengers from Haifa and surrounding areas in the north, who previously faced longer journeys to the country's main international gateway near Tel Aviv.

Collaboration with Haifa Municipality

Alongside the parking expansion, the Airports Authority is working with Haifa's municipal government to explore additional solutions for travelers. One option under review would establish a high-frequency public transportation line running directly from a parking facility in downtown Haifa to the airport terminal.

While the parking infrastructure is being completed, the Authority has launched an information campaign encouraging northern residents to use public transit when possible to reduce congestion. Officials emphasized that the growth in Haifa Airport's operations represents significant positive development for the northern region, and the Authority is deploying all available resources to support the expansion.

The increased activity follows Air Haifa's recent announcement that it has added a fourth aircraft to its fleet as part of an ambitious growth plan. The carrier expects to acquire two additional planes over the coming year, effectively doubling the volume of operations at Haifa Airport. The new parking facility forms part of broader efforts to upgrade infrastructure in line with this expansion, offering northern travelers a more convenient alternative to the journey south to Ben Gurion Airport.
