Israeli forces conducted a targeted airstrike Monday in the Zeitoun neighborhood of Gaza City, killing Omar Mohammad Rushdi Sarraj, a senior commander in Hamas's supply and logistics division for Gaza City. According to the Israel Defense Forces, Sarraj was responsible for managing the distribution of weapons and combat equipment to Hamas operatives throughout the city.

The intelligence-guided operation also targeted a second Hamas military operative. Both individuals were identified as posing an immediate threat to IDF forces operating in the area, prompting the decision to carry out the aerial strike, military officials said.

Intelligence assessments indicate that the eliminated operatives had recently been advancing terror operations against Israeli forces and civilians while systematically working to restore Hamas's military capabilities in the territory. Their ongoing activities included repeated violations of the agreed ceasefire terms, according to military sources.

Southern Command officials emphasized that the strike was carried out as a clear operational objective to remove a direct and tangible threat. "The operatives posed an immediate danger to IDF forces and Israeli civilians," security sources stated. "Their continued activity and systematic ceasefire violations made them high-priority targets for elimination."

The operation is part of a series of targeted strikes the IDF has conducted in recent days against Hamas operatives in Gaza. Last week alone, Israeli forces eliminated Hazem Musa and Razek Abu Shahmeh, two senior Nukhba force members who participated in the October 7 massacre at Kibbutz Re'im, one of whom served as a bodyguard to Hamas's late leader Yahya Sinwar.

Additional recent eliminations in northern Gaza included Hani Abd Alhi Fahri Mazloum, a Nukhba battalion commander, and Hassan Zeidan Hassan Diri, a senior sniper in Hamas's military wing. Both were advancing terror operations and systematically violating ceasefire terms, according to the military.

IDF forces in the Southern Command remain deployed throughout the area in accordance with the ceasefire agreement and will continue operating to remove any immediate threats to soldiers and Israeli civilians.
