The Israel Defense Forces announced Saturday night that its forces struck and killed Sharif al-Hasanat, a company commander in Hamas's military wing operating in the Deir al-Balah area of central Gaza. According to the IDF spokesperson, al-Hasanat posed an immediate threat to Israeli troops operating in the region and was eliminated in a precision strike. Throughout the war, he played a central role in directing Hamas's attempts to restore its underground infrastructure. His activities included efforts to rehabilitate the terror organization's tunnel network and subterranean systems, exploiting various periods during the ongoing conflict to advance these reconstruction projects.

Israeli security officials indicated that al-Hasanat had recently continued advancing terror operations targeting both IDF forces and Israeli civilians. His ongoing activities meant he presented a concrete threat to troops deployed in the Gaza Strip, prompting the decision to carry out his immediate elimination.
The strike adds to a series of targeted operations the IDF has conducted in recent days against Hamas operatives throughout Gaza. Just this past week, Israeli forces eliminated several senior terrorists, including an Islamic Jihad commander who participated in the attack on Kibbutz Be'eri and a Nukhba force member who raided Kibbutz Nir Oz during the October 7 massacre.
The IDF emphasized that Southern Command forces remain deployed across the area in accordance with the ceasefire agreement and will continue operating to remove any threat to Israeli forces and civilians.
Military operations in Gaza continue with the objective of preventing Hamas from rebuilding its military capabilities.
