Shock in Beit Shemesh: Arrests Made After Brutal Assault on Haredi Soldier

As three suspects are detained for the violent attack, National Security Minister Ben Gvir vows: "We will not allow extremists to intimidate those in uniform."

Israel Police, supported by Border Police and Yasam tactical units, carried out a series of arrests in Beit Shemesh over the last 24 hours. Three suspects, including a local yeshiva rabbi, were taken into custody on suspicion of involvement in a violent assault against an Orthodox soldier who also serves as a police volunteer.

The investigation began following a report on Friday night regarding a group of individuals who attacked the victim in the city, causing significant facial injuries that required medical treatment. The victim is a member of the Haredi community who actively encourages enlistment within the sector.

The attack comes amid a reported 300% increase in Haredi recruitment to the police force.

National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir responded to the incident with severity, stating that the police will operate with zero tolerance against fringe elements who try to threaten security personnel. He emphasized that the massive rise in Haredi recruitment is the ultimate answer to such extremist behavior.

The suspects were brought before the Jerusalem Magistrate's Court today for an extension of their remand as the investigation continues.
