Report: Houthis launched new type of hypersonic missile at Ben Gurion Airport
Arabic media: Houthis launched a new hypersonic missile at Israel; the Houthi spokesman, recently omitted the type of missile from his statements to the media.

The missile launched by the Houthis at Israel which hit Ben Gurion airport is, according to Arabic media reports, a new type of hypersonic missile.
Speculation that this was a new type of missile was strengthened mainly after the Houthi spokesman issued a statement after the launch, noting that it was a "hypersonic missile," without specifying its exact type (usually the "Palestine 2"). The spokesman's last two statements also did not mention the type of missile.
Last year, the Houthis announced the use of the "Felesteen-2" hypersonic missile. The missile has a range of 2,000 km, weighs about 4.5 tons and reaches a speed of Mach 16 – which makes it difficult time and time again for the defense systems to intercept them, although the Israeli air defense systems, which are considered to be of very high quality, deal with the threat with relative success.
Earlier today (Sunday), sirens were sounded in large areas of Israel, following the launch from Yemen. Later, there was a fall in the Ben Gurion Airport compound, although so far security officials have not confirmed whether it was the missile's warhead, shrapnel or interception parts. What is certain is that the air defense systems failed in their attempt to successfully intercept the missile.
Following the incident, activity at Ben Gurion Airport was suspended, access to it was blocked, and train traffic in the area was halted for about 45 minutes. After inspections and police approval, the activity was resumed and the roadblocks were removed. The IDF has opened an investigation into the serious incident, and in particular the circumstances of the interception failure.
