The IDF cleared for publication Sunday morning that Staff Sgt. Michael Tyukin, 21, from Ashkelon, was killed in battle in southern Lebanon.
Tyukin served as a combat soldier in the Givati Reconnaissance Battalion, Unit 846, part of the Givati Brigade.
According to the IDF, Tyukin was killed north of the Litani River after an explosive drone launched by the Hezbollah terror group struck a position where Givati reconnaissance forces were operating.
The incident took place Friday night at around 10:30 p.m. Four additional soldiers were lightly wounded in the attack and evacuated for medical treatment.
Tyukin’s death came as IDF forces continued ground operations in southern Lebanon, including areas north of the Litani, as part of the effort to dismantle Hezbollah infrastructure and push threats away from communities in northern Israel.
The attack again underscored the continuing danger posed by Hezbollah’s explosive drones, which have become one of the main threats to Israeli forces operating in Lebanon and to communities along the northern border.
