The Israeli military cleared for publication Thursday that Corporal Rotem Yanai, 20, from Givat Ada, was killed during operational activity in northern Israel. She served as an ordnance equipment NCO in the Rotem Battalion (435) of the Givati Brigade.
Two explosive drones detonated Wednesday at around 2:45 p.m. in a military area near Shomera, inside Israeli territory close to the Lebanese border.
The first drone exploded in the open area while Yanai was making her way to a protected shelter. She was killed as a result. The second drone struck nearby, wounding two reserve soldiers from the standby unit of Moshav Goren, one seriously and one moderately. Both wounded soldiers were evacuated for further medical treatment at Galilee Medical Center in Nahariya.
The IDF noted that both drones were detected by military systems before impact, and a siren was activated in the area at the time of identification.
