Israel's Chief Rabbi, Rabbi Kalman Bar, met Wednesday evening with former IDF Chief of Staff Gadi Eisenkot, chairman of the Yesh Atid party, at a ceremony dedicating a memorial study hall for fallen IDF soldiers. The encounter, captured on video, showed Eisenkot wearing a kippah as he was warmly received by the Chief Rabbi. The two men conversed cordially and shook hands against the backdrop of an event that brought together the pain of bereavement with Torah study and remembrance. The memorial hall is dedicated to learning in memory of Israel's fallen soldiers and security personnel.
Chief Rabbi Meets Eisenkot at Memorial Event
Rabbi Kalman Bar and Gadi Eisenkot came together at the dedication of a study hall honoring fallen IDF soldiers, in a moment of shared grief and respect

During their conversation, Rabbi Bar addressed Eisenkot directly, acknowledging his resilience and contributions. "You are a source of inspiration," the Chief Rabbi told him with evident emotion. For Eisenkot, the event carried profound personal significance. He is a bereaved father from the ongoing war in Gaza, having lost his son, Sergeant Major (res.) Gal Eisenkot, age 25, who served in the Maglan special forces unit and fell in combat in the Gaza Strip. The family also mourns Eisenkot's nephew, Maor Eisenkot, who was also killed in the war.
The newly dedicated memorial hall serves as a space for Torah study in memory of Israel's fallen soldiers and security personnel. The ceremony combined national remembrance with the values of Torah learning, with the Chief Rabbi offering his blessing to the initiative.
