Mostly clear skies are forecast across Israel on Wednesday, with temperatures dropping slightly in mountainous and inland areas. Despite the decrease, conditions will remain hotter and drier than typical for the season in elevated and interior regions, while coastal areas will experience humid conditions. Heat stress levels ranging from severe to extreme will persist throughout most of the country. Overnight conditions are expected to be partly cloudy to clear.
The Israel Meteorological Service issued a red alert this morning warning of extreme heat stress in the Beit She'an Valley, the Kinneret (Sea of Galilee) basin, the Jordan Valley, northern Judean Desert and Dead Sea area, southern Judean Desert and Dead Sea region, and the Arava desert.
Thursday's forecast calls for clear to partly cloudy conditions. Temperatures will drop slightly again, particularly in mountainous and inland areas, though readings will still run somewhat above seasonal averages in these zones while remaining humid along the coast. Severe to extreme heat stress will continue across most regions.
Friday will bring partly cloudy skies with another modest temperature decline, returning readings to seasonal norms. Heat stress is expected to ease somewhat. Light drizzle or local rain showers are possible in northern and central parts of the country.
