Flash Flood Warning for Israel's Coast

Forecasters predict highly localized summer rainfall Saturday night into Sunday, with up to 60mm possible in some areas within hours

Israel's Meteorological Service has issued a special weather alert warning of significant summer rainfall beginning Saturday night, with the heaviest precipitation expected overnight between Saturday and Sunday.

According to the service's announcement, the anticipated rain event will be highly localized in nature, meaning its impact will vary dramatically across different parts of the country. Some areas may receive no rainfall at all, including portions of the coastal plain.

However forecasters are predicting approximately 40 to 60 millimeters of rain falling within just one to three hours during the overnight period.

Geographic Focus and At-Risk Areas

The heaviest rainfall is expected to concentrate from the Carmel coast area, through the Hefer Valley, and south to the Hadera-Netanya line. These zones face the highest risk of flash flooding given the intensity of the predicted precipitation.

Additional areas likely to see rain include northern sections of the coastal plain, as well as regions south of the main impact zone—the Sharon area, Gush Dan (greater Tel Aviv), and the Shephelah lowlands.

Meteorological officials emphasize that the most intense rainfall is forecast for the stretch between Netanya and the Carmel coast, and are calling on residents and local authorities in these areas to remain vigilant.
