Is Israel Ready for a Multi-Day Missile Assault?

Israeli Mayor Warns Public to Prepare for Potential Iranian Missile Barrage

As tensions rise in the Middle East, the mayor of Ramat Gan has issued a detailed public safety advisory, urging residents to prepare for the possibility of a large-scale Iranian attack. While emphasizing that there is no confirmed threat, the city is ramping up readiness measures and calling for calm, responsibility, and vigilance.

As regional tensions with Iran reach a new peak, Ramat Gan Mayor Carmel Shama-Hacohen has issued a comprehensive preparedness message to residents, warning of a possible large-scale missile and UAV assault. While emphasizing there is no certainty of an imminent strike, the mayor said the current threat level is the highest it has been to date and urged residents to take precautions seriously.

“There is no place for panic, only calm, measured readiness,” the mayor stated. “Just as I’m preparing my own family, it’s important that you be prepared too.”

The guidance comes amid heightened public speculation that Israel may launch retaliatory action against Iran, potentially triggering a direct response. The IDF Home Front Command has clarified that no official civilian safety guidelines have changed, but local authorities like Ramat Gan are stepping up efforts to boost awareness and community preparedness.

The mayor’s message highlighted the possibility of an unprecedented wave of attacks. According to the alert, thousands of missiles and UAVs could be launched over extended periods lasting not minutes, but hours or even days. Unlike past conflicts, residents should be ready to shelter for significantly longer durations.

One important point he made: an early warning is expected, possibly up to two hours in advance, via mobile alerts and national media. However, after the initial wave, it’s possible that missiles may fall without sirens, making constant vigilance essential.

In case of a full-scale alert, Ramat Gan will initiate a city-wide lockdown. Schools and workplaces aside from essential services will close immediately. Light rail stations will be transformed into public shelters, and a list of pre-approved underground parking garages will be published for public use.

Residents are advised to prepare their safe rooms (MAMAD) with emergency essentials, including:

Those without access to a safe room should have a personal emergency bag packed and ready in advance.

The mayor stressed that not every missile is guaranteed to be intercepted. While Ramat Gan is not considered a primary target, the threat remains real. “Your awareness, responsibility, and discipline are essential,” he said.

The municipality has taken robust steps to ensure operational readiness, activating an underground command center, training volunteer emergency teams, and stockpiling supplies. Hotline 109 is active 24/7 for residents seeking information or assistance.

Despite the sobering nature of the mayor’s message, it concluded with reassurance and unity: “Together, as always,” he wrote. “The city is prepared at the highest level but our resilience depends on each of us doing our part.”
