Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar met today (Monday) with Greek Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis. The two spoke of the countries' shared interests and the importance of returning regular sporting events between the two.

In his statement on X, Sa'ar said that "Greece is a natural friend and partner of Israel, sharing common opportunities and challenges. I was pleased to host the Foreign Minister of Greece, Giorgos Gerapetritis, today in Jerusalem. We discussed developments in the region and strengthening relations between our countries. I asked the Minister to help restore hosting Greek sports groups in Israel in light of the changing situation."

Previously, Sa'ar met with Argentinian Foreign Minister Gerardo Werthein, during which he said on X that:

"Argentina, under President Javier Milei's leadership, is one of Israel's greatest friends in the world. Argentina shares with us the values of freedom, democracy and a free market.

"Over the past year, Argentina repeatedly proved it knows how to distinguish between good and evil and stood by Israel on the international stage. I was happy to host my colleague, Argentina's Minister of Foreign Affairs Gerardo Werthein, in Jerusalem tonight. The Argentinian economy is undergoing a dramatic change these days, for the better, due to President Milei's bold steps and reforms. We will work together to also strengthen the economic ties between our countries."

Foreign Minister Sa'ar has been working hard to cultivate countries seen as Israel's friends as the mood sours on the Jewish state elsewhere. Thus, while he shut down the Israeli embassy in Ireland following that country's increasingly harsh criticism of Israel, he recently attended the opening of a new embassy in Moldova, which is considered to be much friendlier.

In addition, Sa'ar has also instructed the Foreign Ministry to work to improve ties with African nations as one of its primary goals in 2025.

Regarding President Trump's administration, Sa'ar said that Trump's second term is an "opportunity" for Israel, given that the two countries see "eye to eye" on the Iranian threat and given Trump's multiple pro-Israel actions during his first term, including moving the US embassy to Jerusalem and recognizing Israeli control of the Golan Heights.
