A day after the horrific Jordan Valley attack in which two reservists were killed, the IDF believes that the terrorist who fired the gun followed and observed the post for several days, as reported by Kan Reshet Bet.

The military debriefing examined whether the required procedures and instructions were followed at the post, as these are lessons that should have been learned following dozens of past incidents in which terrorists infiltrated the posts or carried out attacks at checkpoints. Checkpoints and pilboxes are known to be weak points in the early morning hours. A security source told Kan News: "Unfortunately, the lessons have not been assimilated, as if October 7 had not happened."

At the center of the investigation is the question of how the terrorist managed to sneak into the pillbox under cover of darkness and hide without being identified at an earlier stage by the soldier who was at the observation point at the top of the pillbox or by the fighters who were required to be alert for "dawn alert."

The attack took place at around 6:00 A.M., when the terrorist, armed with a long weapon and a bulletproof vest, ambushed the soldiers outside a military post and shot two of them at close range. The terrorist even managed to infiltrate the compound where the fighters were staying. The gunfight between the terrorist and the soldiers continued for many minutes. In the end, the terrorist was killed with a grenade.

Reserve soldiers Sgt. Ofer Young, 39, from Tel Aviv, and Sgt. Avraham Zvi Zvika Friedman, 43, from Ein HaNetziv, were killed in the attack. In addition, two other reservists were seriously wounded, and three were lightly wounded. The number of IDF casualties since the beginning of the war has risen to 844.
