Government stalls October 7 inquiry—opposition vows to push forward
Ministers vote to delay commission for three months, sparking outrage: "With or without you, it will happen!"


In a discussion held at midnight last night (Sunday to Monday), the government postponed for three months the establishment of a state commission of inquiry into the October 7 massacre.
Most of the government ministers agreed with Prime Minister Netanyahu that a commission of inquiry would not be established during the war, due to damage to the war effort.
Opposition Leader Yair Lapid said: "The Israeli government is doing everything possible to avoid taking responsibility. The Cabinet meeting that is taking place now is a shameful display of humiliation of the bereaved families and the families of the hostages."
Chairman of the National Camp, Benny Gantz: "A commission of inquiry into the greatest disaster in the history of the state is not an invitation to power. The interrogees will not choose the interrogators. A state commission of inquiry, independent according to the law, will be established."
Yonatan Shimariz, the brother of the hostage, Alon Shimariz, who was accidentally shot by the IDF, said: "The families whose relatives returned from captivity demand the establishment of a state commission of inquiry, the people who returned from captivity a week ago demand a state commission of inquiry, the bereaved families and communities that were slaughtered demand a state commission of inquiry, 1,800 categories demand the establishment of a state commission of inquiry, 80% of the people demand a state commission of inquiry, it will be established with or without you!"
