Utterly disgareceful

Irish PM Higgins attacks Netanyahu at the Pope's funeral

It’s never the right time for Higgins to air his Israel-hating views, but doing so at the Pope's funeral is beyond the pale.

Irish President Michael D. Higgins provoked outrage on Saturday by criticizing Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during a press interaction following Pope Francis’s funeral, a solemn event meant to unite global leaders in mourning. Higgins accused Netanyahu of leading a military that violates international humanitarian law in Gaza.

Speaking to reporters, Higgins said, “It is not wrong to criticize a prime minister who is strengthening an army that is in breach of international humanitarian law,” citing disregard for civilian rights, particularly those of women and children. He also called it “outrageous” that critics of Israel’s policies are branded antisemitic, noting that many Israelis oppose their government’s actions.

It's far from the first time he has made ugly biased statements against Israel. As a result of Ireland’s increasingly critical stance on Israel’s Gaza operations, diplomatic ties with Jerusalem are so strained they may soon snap.

Israeli officials have yet to respond.

When even the President can't find it in himself to be respectful and appropriate, and jumps on the bandwagon of the POPE's funeral to bash Israel and further the tired broken Palestinian narrative, it's really no wonder antisemitism is surging all over the world.
