Under the right conditions
Bloomberg Report: Syrian President wants to join the Abraham Accords!
Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa has told a U.S. congressman that he wants to normalize relations with Israel and join the Abraham Accords, according to a report by Bloomberg News cited by Channel 12. However, al-Sharaa added that this would need to happen “under the right conditions.” Here are all the details from Bloomberg’s striking report.

Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa, also known by his jihadist name al-Julani, shared his interest in normalizing ties with Israel during a conversation with Republican Congressman Cory Mills. He outlined conditions for this move, though the report did not specify what those were.
According to Bloomberg, Mills delivered a letter from al-Sharaa to President Trump, detailing Syria’s conditions and addressing U.S. concerns about the new Syrian regime. The U.S. views al-Sharaa’s rise to power with skepticism, given his past as a jihadist and former member of the terrorist group al-Qaeda. Washington worries that Syria could become another Afghanistan, with an extremist regime supporting enemies of the U.S., Israel, and the West.
Mills, in this rare meeting, conveyed U.S. conditions for lifting sanctions on Syria, including a commitment to destroy remaining chemical weapons from the Assad era and steps to combat jihadist terrorism in the country. He expressed cautious hope about the possibility of restoring U.S.-Syria relations, saying, “I’m cautiously optimistic and look forward to continuing the dialogue. At some point, Germany and Japan were our enemies, but we moved past that and achieved stability.”
Recently, the Syrian government detained two senior Islamic Jihad operatives in the country, likely as a gesture to signal goodwill to the U.S. and rebuild trust with the West. Mills confirmed these developments in a media interview, stating that Syria wants to be a good neighbor and maintain relations with Israel.
“They share a border, so it’s important for Israel and Syria to have strong ties,” Mills said. “I think the president and his leadership have shown a willingness to work with Israel and prevent weapons from being transferred through Syria to Lebanon.”
He added, “The president [al-Sharaa] was very clear that he’s looking to establish and maintain a strong relationship, to be a good neighbor. That’s encouraging for the American people and for the U.S. president who established the historic Abraham Accords. Looking forward, I think we can expect a strong relationship between Israel and Syria.” Mills also noted that Syria aims to partner with the West and ensure it does not become a safe haven for terrorism or a proxy for Iran.
