Seventeen years of emotional torment, mounting debts and a seemingly insurmountable impasse came to a stunning end in the chambers of Israel's Chief Rabbinical Court. On the eve of Rosh Hashanah 5787, a mission deemed impossible was completed: a get that no one had managed to secure for nearly two decades.
The breakdown began some twenty years ago when the couple emigrated to the United States, married, had a child together, and then experienced a sharp deterioration that ended with the mother fleeing back to Israel with the child. From that point, an unprecedented conflict ignited: Hague Convention lawsuits, exit bans imposed on the husband who had obtained American status, ballooning debts, and relentless clashes in the courts. Previous attempts failed repeatedly. The Agunah Unit provided dedicated support, but the barrier remained firmly in place.
