A 30-year-old man was killed Wednesday evening in a head-on collision between two private vehicles on Route 60 near the town of Omer in southern Israel.
The force of impact was severe, leaving both vehicles with massive structural damage, crushed frames, and total destruction of exterior and interior components.
Large rescue forces dispatched to the scene upon receiving the initial report included intensive-care ambulances, volunteers from United Hatzalah and Magen David Adom (MDA), and multiple fire and rescue units who worked rapidly and decisively to extricate those trapped inside the mangled vehicles.
Upon arrival, the teams encountered difficult scenes at a highly complex site, with both vehicles standing crushed at the roadside and near the traffic lanes, surrounded by shattered glass and twisted metal fragments.
One of the drivers, a man around 30, was trapped inside one of the vehicles, completely unconscious, without pulse or respiration, and suffering from severe and critical multi-system trauma. Fire and rescue crews worked under time pressure to extract his body from the wreckage, and medics and paramedics immediately began comprehensive medical assessments, but his injuries were fatal and they had no choice but to pronounce him dead at the scene.
