The same suspect called New York police twice on Tuesday with bomb threats against Israel-bound flights, according to Kan News. After claiming this morning that he had planted a bomb on a Delta flight from New York to Ben Gurion Airport, he called again in the evening to report a bomb on a second flight scheduled to depart the US for Israel tonight.
The second aircraft, already prepared for takeoff from New York to Israel, was denied clearance to depart pending a full security sweep by US authorities and approval from Israeli security officials and the Transportation Ministry, Kan reported.
Earlier Tuesday, passengers were removed from the Delta aircraft that had landed at Ben Gurion from New York following an anonymous bomb threat. The Israel Airports Authority later confirmed that after thorough searches of the plane, no suspicious items were found and normal operations resumed.
According to the Airports Authority, the aircraft was moved to a remote parking position, all passengers disembarked safely, and the plane was searched thoroughly by Ben Gurion security personnel.
