Israel Elections 2026

Zelekha: We'll get 5–7 mandates

The economist, number two on the Miluimnikim HaKlalit list, says his party won't compromise on its principles and won't join a coalition without the Finance Ministry

Prof. Yaron Zelekha: We'll get five to seven mandates in the election

Prof. Yaron Zelekha, number two on the Miluimnikim HaKlalit (Economic Reservists) party list, said in an interview on Radio 103FM that his party will not compromise on its principles in coalition negotiations after the election, even if it means sitting in opposition.

If their demands are not met by either bloc, "we'll sit in opposition," Zelekha said. "It's honourable to sit in opposition and continue telling the public the truth. The truth is that you can't live here. People want to live, not just survive. If we're big and strong, there will be no choice but to form a government according to our principles."

Zelekha addressed the polling data and said that "in the vast majority of polls, except Channel 24 and Channel 14, on 11, 12, 13, Maariv, Israel Hayom, we're averaging five mandates. In our internal polls we're scraping six, and the seventh mandate is waiting for us."

"We're going to be the biggest protest vote in the state's history, people are going to say enough," Prof. Zelekha said, adding that "with a large force in the Knesset, it won't be possible to form a government without us. I want to surprise you: this infantile bloc loyalty won't hold after the election. It will be possible to form a government without Arabs and without draft dodgers."

He laid out the political scenario he believes will unfold by presenting the party's three threshold conditions: "I believe it will be possible to form a government around our three principles, a blocking bloc against draft evasion, no inclusion of Arab parties, and the Finance Ministry in my hands so I can bring down the cost of living. Around our three principles, 61 mandates will coalesce. Netanyahu has already formed a government without the chareidim."
