Israel is in for a sharp change in the weather over the coming days, with a hot, dry weekend giving way to rain that is expected to begin on Election Day, according to a forecast issued Thursday morning by the Israel Meteorological Service.
On Friday, temperatures will rise and conditions will turn dry, with easterly winds. Highs will reach around 30°C (86°F) in the hill regions and climb even higher in the lowlands and valleys.
The bigger shift is expected midweek. The Meteorological Service forecasts that rain will begin on Tuesday afternoon, Election Day, in the Eilat area and along the border with Egypt. By Tuesday evening, it is expected to spread to the Arava and the eastern Negev, where there is a real risk of flash floods.
Precipitation maps from the service’s forecast model show the system strengthening during the second half of Tuesday. Forecasters cautioned that the timing is still several days out and could change, but said the rain is expected to reach central and northern Israel later next week.
