If you win this election, if the right wins, can you promise that Gali Baharav-Miara will be replaced? That was the question put this morning (Sunday) to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in an interview he gave, as part of a pre-election interview blitz, to Kol Israel radio.
"It's clear she will be replaced," he answered. But the interviewer, Yotam Zimri, pressed further: "I'm not talking about the time she needs to finish her term, what's called 'in due course.'"
Netanyahu replied: "The answer is yes. You saw how in the past year we managed to bring things through despite her opposition and that of the deep state, for example, the appointment of Zini as head of the Shin Bet, for example the appointment of Roman Gofman as head of the Mossad.
"We will need to make a much greater effort to restore the balance between the legislative branch, the elected branch, and the judicial branch. That balance has gone off the rails. We will balance it, we will fix it, and we will find a real legal adviser and not the parody that has now been revealed."
During the interview on the "Pitchi and Zimri" program, Netanyahu also addressed what is happening in his trial. "My trial collapsed long ago," he said. "It only proves how much this system needs fixing. What has now become clear? That this entire trial was born in sin, without legal authorization, against the law, continued with endless criminal violations of law, and that there was an attempted coup against democracy here.
"They can't beat me, so they come and put me on trial based on the assumption that I'll despair, as Alsheich said... Today, after it has collapsed to dust, they're trying to do something else. Lieberman is talking about it, he wants a 'defendant law.' But the accusers have become the accused themselves. We need to end this trial immediately and open a criminal investigation against everyone who was party to this criminal political hunt, starting with Mandelblit himself, Shai Nitzan, Yehudit Tirosh, Liat Ben Ari, Alsheich. Alsheich who said 'I know every word.' You know every word? Face justice now." He added: "Everything is stitched up. Crude and criminal stitching."
