IDF intercepts target over south Lebanon

Interceptor launched at suspicious aerial object in IDF operational zone in southern Lebanon; results under review | No sirens sounded per policy | Second incident in northern sector in two days

Interception over Israeli airspace

The IDF launched an interceptor this morning (Sunday) at a suspicious aerial target detected in the area where Israeli forces are operating in southern Lebanon. According to the IDF Spokesperson, the results of the interception are currently being reviewed.

The military clarified that no sirens were activated in accordance with standing policy. This marks the second such incident in the northern sector in recent days, following sirens heard last night in the Arab al-Aramshe area due to suspected infiltration of a hostile aircraft.

The IDF reported yesterday that lookouts identified an unidentified aerial object in the border area with Lebanon. The military stated last night that "IDF forces are continuing sweeps in the area. So far, no unusual findings have been located. There are no special instructions for the home front."

The incidents come against the backdrop of ongoing IDF operations in southern Lebanon. Forces from the 810th Brigade completed an operation this week to locate terror infrastructure on the outskirts of the village of Shuba, during which an explosive device ready for activation was discovered.

Defense Minister: "Security Zone Empty of Residents"

Defense Minister Israel Katz recently addressed Israeli activity in Lebanon, amid concerns of a Hezbollah attack coordinated with Iran. In his remarks, he warned that if Hezbollah joins an Iranian attack against Israel, the response against the terror organization will be severe.

"To understand what we have done in Lebanon, it is worth reading the following carefully: We have brought unprecedented security to the residents of the North," Katz stated. "We have established a security zone inside Lebanese territory spanning 700 square kilometers, from the Mediterranean coast in the west to Beaufort and the Ali Taher ridge and the outskirts of Mount Hermon in the east, as protection from raids and direct fire on northern communities."

The defense minister further noted that "all 200,000 Shiite residents have been evacuated up to the Yellow Line, and the IDF is operating in the area and dismantling terror infrastructure below and above ground, destroyed the massive tunnels built there as an invasion threat to the Galilee, and demolished more than 60 Lebanese villages in the sector as part of Operation Silver Plowshare."

According to him, "There has never been such a reality in southern Lebanon, even compared to security zones that existed in the past: a security zone empty of residents and clean of terror infrastructure and houses. This is the new security concept that the Prime Minister and I are leading together with the IDF."
