Iran Seeks Four-Day Framework, Turkey Talks

Iran wants a framework agreement's timeframe cut from seven days to four, and mediators are consulting Tehran on a meeting in Turkey before November 4.

Iran is pressing to shorten a framework agreement's timeframe from seven days to four, Saudi outlet Al Arabiya reported. Mediators are consulting Tehran on convening a meeting in Turkey before November 4, with an agenda that reportedly includes the Iranian nuclear issue and bringing in inspectors.

The proposed schedule also reportedly includes reopening the Strait of Hormuz and lifting the blockade.

For Israel, the stakes are direct. On October 28, Israel's N12 reported that the window for a deal that would head off another war between Iran and both the United States and Israel is closing.

According to that report, Washington warned Iranian officials that a US strike would go ahead unless Tehran shipped its highly enriched uranium to the United States, ended attacks across the region and opened the Strait of Hormuz. The warning came alongside a US military buildup that includes moving a Patriot air-defense battery from Texas to the Middle East.

The same day, a senior Iranian official told Reuters that Qatar had not handed Tehran a ceasefire draft with the United States, only a set of proposals, and that Iran had rejected them.

"The only thing we received is a list of unacceptable ideas. We will not compromise on the nuclear issue."

Before that rejection, reports had said Qatari mediators delivered a new proposal to Iran on the preceding Sunday. It set a seven-day timeline and addressed demands from both Washington and Tehran, with several countries reportedly prepared to act as guarantors and implementation possible as early as the following week.
