A major fire broke out Monday in an electric bicycle shop on Agrippas Street in Yerushalayim, with Fire and Rescue crews from the Umah district station working to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to adjacent buildings.

Emergency dispatchers received the call a short time ago, and firefighting teams were sent to the scene immediately. On arrival, crews identified a fire involving electric bicycles and lithium batteries inside the shop.

The lithium batteries are producing a heavy fire load, secondary explosions and thick smoke, complicating firefighting operations and posing a danger to the surrounding area. Firefighters are working to stop the fire from spreading, extinguish the burning materials and clear smoke from the structure.

Alongside the firefighting effort, teams are conducting sweeps of the scene to rule out the presence of anyone trapped inside the building. According to Fire and Rescue, the blaze is classified as complex due to the nature of the flammable materials and the hazard posed by the lithium batteries.

Agrippas Street, located in the heart of Yerushalayim near the Machane Yehuda market, is one of the city's main traffic arteries. The surrounding neighborhoods are densely populated, raising concern that the fire could spread to nearby structures.

The incident joins a series of fires caused by lithium battery ignition in recent months. Israel Fire and Rescue reminds the public to use only standard-compliant batteries and chargers in accordance with manufacturer instructions, and not to leave electrical devices charging unattended.

As of this hour, crews are continuing firefighting operations at the scene, though the fire appears to be under the control of the firefighters.
