A new report from the American news site Axios reveals a heated exchange between US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu regarding the recent response from the Hamas terror organization to the latest peace proposal for Gaza.

Last Friday, Hamas delivered a "yes, but" response to President Trump's peace initiative. Seeing this as positive momentum, Trump reportedly called Netanyahu to discuss what he considered to be "good news." However, the Israeli Prime Minister disagreed sharply.

An American official familiar with the content of the conversation said that Netanyahu told Trump that the response gave "no reason for celebration" and that "it means nothing." Trump, according to the source, reacted with anger, snapping back at Netanyahu: "I don't understand why you're always so negative, damn it. That's a victory. Take it." The use of strong language underscores the depth of the disagreement between the two leaders over the interpretation of Hamas's position.

Trump's Optimism and Israel's Preparations

Despite Netanyahu’s skepticism, President Trump publicly expressed optimism following Hamas's reply to the framework he proposed earlier in the week.

Trump stated that based on the terror group's message, he believed they were "ready for a sustainable peace." He added a strong call for immediate de-escalation, saying, "Israel must stop the bombings in Gaza so that we can get the hostages safely and quickly." Concluding his remarks, the President confirmed, "We are already in the midst of discussions about the details that need to be finalized. It's not just about Gaza, it's about the long-awaited peace in the Middle East."

Following the developments, the Hostage Directorate in the Prime Minister's Office sent an update to the families of the hostages. The message confirmed that in light of Hamas's response, Israel is preparing for the immediate implementation of the first phase of the Trump plan for the instant release of all hostages. The Directorate emphasized its commitment to the diplomatic process, adding, "We will continue to work in full cooperation with the President and his team to end the war, in accordance with the principles set by Israel that align with President Trump’s vision."

The reported friction between Trump and Netanyahu, contrasted with the Hostage Directorate's public message of cooperation, demonstrates the complex political dynamics surrounding the sensitive negotiations.
