Police Probe Journalist Over Netanyahu Claim

Authorities collecting evidence after attorney for prime minister's son alleged journalist Uri Mishgav disclosed his locations

Israeli police have opened an investigation into journalist Uri Mishgav and are gathering materials related to the case, journalist Aviad Glickman reported Wednesday evening. The probe was initiated following a formal complaint letter sent to the police commissioner by the attorney representing Yair Netanyahu, son of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

According to the report, the complaint alleges that Mishgav disclosed the locations of Yair Netanyahu. This claim forms the basis of the complaint filed by Netanyahu's legal counsel, and police have now begun collecting materials and examining the matter.

The complaint letter was sent directly to the police commissioner. Copies were also forwarded to the head of the Shin Bet (Israel's internal security service) and to the attorney general. At this stage, police activity is being characterized as a preliminary examination and evidence-gathering process.

The police investigation is focusing, according to the report, on the allegation concerning the disclosure of Yair Netanyahu's whereabouts. The report did not specify which locations were allegedly revealed, how they were published, or the dates to which the complaint refers.

No details have yet been released regarding what materials police have already collected or what additional steps they plan to take as part of the investigation. Similarly, there has been no public response from the police commissioner, the head of the Shin Bet, or the attorney general regarding the letter they received.

The current development follows the appeal by Yair Netanyahu's attorney to senior law enforcement officials. The core of the complaint, as reported, centers on the allegation that journalist Uri Mishgav exposed the locations where Netanyahu was present.
