Left rages at Eisenkot candidate over refusal

Eliasaf Peretz, running with Gadi Eisenkot's Yashar party, sparked fury among left-wing activists after refusing to praise Brothers in Arms for their post-October 7 work: We can subtract one mandate from our bloc right now

Eliasaf Peretz, a candidate on the Yashar! list headed by former IDF chief Gadi Eisenkot, set off a storm on Wednesday after a video circulated showing him refusing to commend the Brothers in Arms protest group.

In the video, Peretz spoke about the bravery of the Israeli people immediately after October 7, saying it burst forth both in the combat zone against the enemy and in civilian organisations that helped with everything needed.

A woman in the audience interrupted him and said: "Say something good about Brothers in Arms." Peretz replied: "You can say it, I won't." The event erupted after the woman persisted, demanding he praise the organisation, and Peretz continued to refuse.

Left-wing activist Uri Kol attacked him over the incident, writing: "We can subtract one mandate from our bloc right now. From reading about the man and just from his statement yesterday about Brothers in Arms, I think Eliasaf Peretz, number 20 on Yashar, is our next Silman. A Bibist recruited to a centrist party. The moment the pressures start on him, I don't think he'll withstand them. Better to understand that now and not be surprised later."
