Austrian Chancellor Christian Stocker has canceled his official visit to Israel, which was scheduled for next week, against the backdrop of heightened tensions and fears of further escalation between Iran, Israel, and the United States.
The visit, which would have been the Chancellor’s first official trip to Israel, was expected to include high-level meetings with Israeli officials. Austrian sources cited security concerns and the unstable regional situation as the main reasons for the last-minute cancellation.
Israeli officials expressed disappointment but understood the decision given the current security climate. “We respect the Chancellor’s decision and hope to reschedule the visit when the situation allows,” a senior diplomatic source told i24NEWS.
The cancellation comes as:
- The US has increased its military presence in the region, including refueling tankers in Israel.
- Iran continues to issue threats of retaliation.
- Several European leaders have adjusted travel plans to the Middle East in recent days.
This development reflects growing caution among European governments regarding travel to Israel amid the volatile security situation.
