Conservative commentator Candace Owens unleashed a scathing attack on her former boss, Ben Shapiro, in a recent episode of her podcast, questioning, "Why are you not embarrassed to be alive? I don't understand it." The remark came amid an escalating feud that has divided prominent figures in the MAGA movement and conservative media.

The outburst was prompted by Shapiro's appearance at Turning Point USA's AmericaFest conference in Phoenix on December 19, 2025, where he publicly denounced Owens' conspiracy theories as "baseless trash" and "r*******" (implying "retarded"). Shapiro specifically targeted Owens' claims surrounding the death of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk, accusing her of promoting "hideous and conspiratorial nonsense" and calling out allies like Tucker Carlson and Megyn Kelly as "cowards" for not condemning her.

In response, Owens dedicated episode 283 of her Candace podcast, titled "What Does Ben Shapiro Know About Erika Kirk And Fort Huachuca?", to railing against Shapiro, accusing him of jealousy, pettiness, and hidden knowledge about Kirk's widow, Erika Kirk. She portrayed his behavior as "embarrassing" and likened him to a "worm," escalating to profanities like "f*** you and the midget horse that you rode in on."

The AmericaFest event itself became a flashpoint, with Tucker Carlson clashing with Shapiro on stage over Owens, and Steve Bannon labeling Shapiro a "cancer" in conservative circles. Owens also alleged Shapiro's ties to Israel influenced his attacks, claiming, "Every time Ben speaks I feel more certain Israel is involved in 9/10," and accusing him of prioritizing Israeli interests over American ones.

Background: A Long-Simmering Feud and Conspiracy Theories

The rift between Owens and Shapiro dates back to late 2023, when tensions arose over Owens' comments on the Israel-Hamas conflict. Owens tweeted that "no government anywhere has a right to commit a genocide ever," which Shapiro deemed "disgraceful" and lacking sophistication, leading to her firing from The Daily Wire (co-founded by Shapiro) in March 2024.

Owens has since accused Shapiro of behind-the-scenes sabotage, including pressuring donors and organizations like Turning Point USA to exclude her from events while using ad dollars to secure his own spots. She described her exit as humiliating, comparing an internal town hall to a "slave hanging."

The feud intensified following the assassination of Charlie Kirk earlier in 2025. Owens has promoted theories linking Kirk's death to a cover-up involving his widow, Erika Kirk, and Fort Huachuca, a U.S. Army base in Arizona, with insinuations of Israeli involvement or foreign influence.

After meeting with Erika Kirk in Nashville on December 16, 2025, Owens doubled down, suggesting Shapiro "knows something" about her and was envious of Charlie Kirk's success. Erika Kirk has pushed back, accusing Owens of baseless attacks on her family and TPUSA.

This public spat highlights deeper fractures in conservative media, with Owens aligning with isolationist and America First voices like Carlson, while Shapiro defends pro-Israel stances and criticizes what he sees as antisemitism and conspiracy-mongering. Megyn Kelly has trolled Shapiro for his "betrayal," further amplifying the divide. As of now, neither Owens nor Shapiro has shown signs of backing down, with the controversy drawing in other figures like Nick Fuentes, whom Shapiro called a "Hitler apologist."
