Dramatic clarification

Liberman sets condition for draft law

Yisrael Beiteinu chairman responds to reports of understandings with chareidi parties: There's no point wasting even one minute on a law that isn't acceptable to Bagatz

Liberman: "Any Draft Law Must Pass the High Court Test"

As contacts continue with the chareidi parties over entering the government, Yisrael Beiteinu chairman Avigdor Liberman wrote on X that "the reports about capitulation on the draft law prove a basic lack of understanding by those reporters who broadcast it."

Liberman clarified that the precondition for any draft law is that it pass the High Court (Bagatz) test. "Otherwise, there's no point wasting even one minute on a law that isn't acceptable," he said.

According to him, "in all the reports on the television channels there isn't one word of truth. This is an organized and orderly campaign, whose purpose is to harm, to slander, and to prepare the ground for a minority government with Hamas supporters, a very short-term government that will then crown Binyamin Netanyahu for four years with a coalition of 70 MKs."

The understandings between Liberman and the chareidim

Earlier it was reported that Liberman and the chareidim have already formed preliminary understandings, under which the chareidi parties will receive a series of achievements in exchange for joining the change bloc.

According to the report, one of the main commitments on the table is advancing legislation that would lead to an immediate halt to arrests of draft evaders. In addition, a committee is planned to be established that will re-examine the issue of service in Israel, while broadening the discussion to include the Arab population and other groups, and not only the chareidi public. According to sources involved, broadening the discussion is intended to shift the focus of public criticism away from chareidi society.

The distribution of government portfolios also came up in the framework of the contacts: according to the preliminary understandings, Yahadut HaTorah will receive the Construction and Housing Ministry, which will be designated for MK Yaakov Asher, as well as the Interior Ministry, which is to be received by a representative from Degel HaTorah who is not serving as a Knesset member.
