Iranian Protester Erfan Soltani Allegedly Beaten to Death in Custody
"Brutally beaten to death": Reports expose the alleged murder of Erfan Soltani in IRGC custody. The regime denied his death sentence only to kill him in silence to evade global scrutiny.

Unconfirmed reports from inside Iran claim that 26-year-old protester Erfan Soltani, arrested earlier this month amid nationwide anti-regime demonstrations, has been beaten to death while in detention. The allegations surfaced Sunday via Jerusalem Post diplomatic correspondent Amichai Stein, who cited sources stating Soltani was "brutally killed" by the Islamic Republic authorities.
Soltani was detained on January 8 in Fardis, near Karaj, for participating in protests that have rocked Iran since late December 2025, triggered by economic collapse and escalating into demands for regime change.
Initial accounts from relatives and human rights groups, including Iran Human Rights (IHR), suggested he faced a rushed trial without legal representation and was sentenced to death, with execution possibly imminent as early as January 13 or 14.
This prompted international outcry, including from US President Donald Trump, who warned of consequences if protesters were executed.
Iran's judiciary denied these claims on January 15, stating Soltani had not been sentenced to death and was not facing capital charges, describing reports as "false" and part of a misinformation campaign.
Family sources and activists reported a postponement of any execution, but concerns persisted amid the ongoing crackdown, where at least 648 protesters have been killed, per IHR estimates.
Today's reports allege the regime opted for an extrajudicial killing to evade global scrutiny, specifically, that Soltani was beaten to death in IRGC (Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps) custody.
A video from activist Shahla Pakravan (mother of executed protester Reyhaneh Jabbari) also circulated, claiming Soltani was killed in prison.
Iranian authorities have not responded to these latest allegations, amid a communications blackout since January 8 that has hampered verification.
Human rights organizations are calling for independent investigations, warning this could signal escalated tactics to suppress the uprising. Soltani's case has become a symbol of the protests' human cost, with condolences flooding social media under hashtags like #ErfanSoltani and #IranRevolution2026.
