A major fire has broken out behind Kosher Kingdom in Golders Green. Roads closed, residents warned to stay inside.

Golders Green fire

Thick plumes of smoke and large flames are visible for miles this morning after a significant fire broke out behind Kosher Kingdom, one of Europe’s largest kosher supermarkets on Golders Green Road.

London Fire Brigade crews were called to the scene at approximately 6:47–7:00 AM. Around 70–100 firefighters and up to 15 fire engines are currently battling the blaze, which started in the warehouse/storage area at the rear of the supermarket.

Current Status

  • No injuries have been reported.
  • The area has been cordoned off, with significant traffic disruption on Golders Green Road.
  • Residents in the immediate vicinity have been advised to keep windows and doors closed due to the smoke.
  • No confirmed reports of gas canisters at risk of exploding in this incident.

The cause of the fire remains unknown at this stage. Some reports note similarities to a major blaze at the same Kosher Kingdom warehouse in 2008, which was caused by an electrical fault.

Given the recent wave of antisemitic incidents in Golders Green (including the arson attack on Hatzolah ambulances in March), many in the local Jewish community expressed immediate concern on social media. However, emergency services have not indicated any suspicion of foul play so far.

Kosher Kingdom remains a central hub for the Orthodox Jewish community in north London. The extent of damage to stock and the building is not yet known.
