In a joint press conference with French President Emmanuel Macron, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto stated that his country is "ready to recognize Israel, if Tel Aviv recognizes an independent Palestinian state."

Subianto, who took office in October 2024, emphasized that Israel’s security must be guaranteed, while adding that France will continue supporting steps toward Palestinian statehood.

Last year, reports surfaced that Indonesia had agreed to establish diplomatic ties with Israel in exchange for joining the OECD.

Indonesia, the world’s most populous Muslim-majority nation, was also mentioned in connection with former President Trump’s proposal to relocate Gaza residents, as a potential host country.
