A small agricultural plane crashed Friday into a daycare center in Campo Verde, Brazil, at a time when some 180 children aged one to five were inside the building.
The aircraft struck one of the daycare's rooms, causing severe structural damage, but the room happened to be empty at the moment of impact. According to the city's mayor, between 17 and 20 children were present in each of the two adjacent rooms, only a short distance from where the plane hit.
Despite the force of the collision, none of the children or staff members were injured. The 28-year-old pilot was hurt and taken to hospital. Daycare staff evacuated all the children safely and released them to their parents.
Security camera footage captured the moment of the crash and the destruction it caused to the structure. Authorities have opened an investigation into the circumstances of the accident.
